The intention for this serie (2019-2024) is to create a dialogue with our grandmother's needle works, those who were conceptualised by the industry and can be considered as a metonymy of the XXth century. This contemporary appropriation is done by the work of the cutoff which allows the reinterpretation and the metaphore.
In this process, Christelle Rodrigues uses couture pieces taken from big canvas, supports of needle works. She transforms original embroideries made with diagonal points into images in order to tale unfinished stories. A child chair, African masks, a trunk, suitcases or other old objects are enveloped with the canvas which creates emotional and memorial links between images and narrations. The trail of significations is rich. The viewer weaves its own interpretation thanks to the pulse issued from scattered pieces' sewing.
The aim of this upcycling movement is to keep a trace of ancestors' artworks as well as transport them into our contemporary world which is indubitably distinct from the past century.
Each creation has its own life. However, mixing them, the composition transcends each individuality. The dialogue is also possible with embroideries or fabrics from other cultures.
